3 Step Process to Delete Social Media

Updated: Aug 28, 2020

There can be many reasons why you would want to delete your presence on social media. Either you have found yourself in hot water for one reason or another or you are just sick of the hustle and bustle. Either way, we won’t judge.

The best way to permanently get rid of social media is to delete your profiles. When you delete a profile, you will never be able to access or revive it again, so you must be absolutely sure.

At this point, the most impactful social media profiles that keep your information are Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Deleting these profiles will also delete all of the messages that you have shared on these apps.

Step 1: Delete Facebook

The three-step process to deleting social media begins by making a big decision. Do you want to delete your Facebook account or simply deactivate it?

If you are still skittish about getting rid of Facebook altogether, then deactivation will hide your timeline and will prevent people from searching for you. However, you can reactivate your profile at any time.

If you wish to delete your account, then everything is removed, and the action cannot be reversed. If you ever decide to return to Facebook, then you will have to start completely from scratch.

To delete Facebook, click the down-facing triangle at the upper right of your Facebook screen, and go to settings. Then click Your Facebook Information on the upper right. When you do, you will see Deactivation and Deletion at the bottom of the middle menu.

From there, you can choose to deactivate or delete your Facebook account. Choose your option. You will get ONE FINAL SCREEN to let you change your mind.

Click the Delete Account button, and your Facebook account will be gone forever.

Step 2: Delete Instagram

The second step to deleting your Social Media is deleting Instagram. If you have put some photos on Instagram that you are not so proud of, then deleting your account may be a smart idea.

Just like with Facebook, you have a decision to make. Instead of permanent deletion, you can “temporarily disable” your account, which will disable your photos, comments, and likes, but you can reactivate it in the future if you ever decide to so so.

Deleting your Instagram account will delete all of your followers, photos, comments, and likes, and they will never be back. If you return to Instagram, you will have to start from scratch.

To delete your Instagram, go to the app on your phone and click the Person or Profile icon on the bottom right of the screen. Then, click the three lines at the upper right corner. Then tap Settings at the bottom.

On the new menu, click Help, then Help Center. A new window will open. Click Managing Your Account. Then you will see the option to Delete Your Account. You will then be directed to the “Delete Your Account Page.”

A new window will open, and you will be asked to sign in. You will be asked why you want to delete your account. Select an option. Then you will be asked for your password once more. Finally, you will click the Red button to Permanently Delete Your Account.

Step 3: Delete Twitter

Finally, step three is to delete Twitter. You only have one option on Twitter, and that is to Deactivate your account. However, if you change your mind, you can restore your account within 30 days.

To delete Twitter, click on your Profile Picture and then click Settings and Privacy. The last item at the bottom of the new menu is Deactivate Your Account. Click that, and you will be given some final disclosures.

If you agree, you will be asked for your password one more time, and the deactivation will be complete.

Wrap Up and Final Notes

Remember that once you delete any of these social media accounts, you will never be able to recover them. You will have to start again from scratch if you decide to return.

Keep in mind that social media is intended for fun and to keep up with friends and family. Do not use it as a weapon or to cause trouble in your community.

Second guess yourself if you ever think about posting something risky. Have a good time with it, and you may never need to delete your accounts.
